Took a solid 2 1/2 hour walk this evening. Love how walkable Austin is. This time of year is also a perfect time of year to go walking. After work, the weather is probably in the upper 70s…perfect. Also love that Austin is so active, the trail is generally packed.

I walked by a bunch of people waiting for the bats to come out. Didn’t realize the bats are out now! Guess so:

I walked past this sign. Love that there is a frozen banana stand in Austin:

Check this view out! The trail is such a wonderful place to walk – amazing view of the city lights (I’m a huge sucker for city lights, p.s.)

And if there isn’t a view of the city lights, there’s frequently a view of the lake. Wow:

So, this picture was taken from the footbridge right next to Lamar. Out of the whole trail, I think this might be one of my favorite places:

I love the bridge #1 for this beautiful view. However, I also love it for the fantastic people watching opps. Does anyone else wonder what people are listening to when they are running /walking? I usually assume it’s some power pump mix of Black Eyed Peas, Journey, and perhaps some N Sync. However…maybe not. I love people watching on the bridge, trying to guess what type of music they are listening to.

So at this point, I’m sure you are dying to know what I listen to when I walk? Well…it’s definately not the usual mix. The stuff I listed above…Black Eyed Peas, Journey…that type of stuff. That doesn’t keep me going like many others. For me, music that keeps me going is music with depth. I love walking to classical music. Why? Well, every other second of my life, I am doing 10.7 million things at once…while walking…it’s just walking and listening to music. Since I don’t have to put much effort toward walking, I can focus on the music.

Classical music for example – there is so much complexity…so many layers and textures to each song. I love being able to give my undivided attention to a solid classical piece (Tchaikovsky and Chopin are my favorites at the moment) and try to dissect it…figure out all the parts and … well marvel at the sheer genius of these guys…I mean seriously…if I were to write a symphony or piano concerto, I’d have no freaking clue where to start.

The other type of music I love to listen to while walking is music with meaningful lyrics. Now, if you think I am implying Rhianna’s ‘Rude Boy’….well no, not that at all. Actually I hate that song. And her for singing it. Anyway, people like Ari Hest, Ray Lamontagne, Mason Jennings…heck even Johnny Cash. There is so much meaning behind the lyrics in these guys’ songs. I love being able to take a solid hour of my undivided attention and listen to the music. Actually LISTEN and not just hear it…there is a difference.

One of the other things I’ve gotten into? Listening to CDs (is that old school to say CD?) from beginning to end. With all the technology we have, play lists, Pandora, etc. people don’t listen to albums like they used to. However, each album has a story. Each song is strategically ordered in the lineup…but with the way we listen to music now…well…that’s been lost. Although I def. have more singles than CDs…I really do love listening to an album from beginning to end. There’s a story behind each cd and I love trying to figure that out.

Anyway…that’s all for now…time to go take a walk.

Oh but first…so like I’ve said before, I love going back 1 year, 2 years, etc. to see what I had posted…well, I was in NYC last year at this time and well…check out this post. Man, so much as changed in just one short year. And PS, I’m really not one to be openly hard on myself…but damn…I don’t look that great in this video. That’s probably because last year during school I never slept, I napped…there wasn’t time for sleep. Eek. Anyway…crazy stuff.
