So once upon a time during COLAB I met a bunch of really wonderful people. Well, one of these people contacted me a few months ago to pick my brain about the Austin music scene for an event she was putting together. She needed to find a band and I said…well hmmm that is perfect, I know a pretty sweet band I played with a few months back, you should talk to them. So one thing let to another, and Friday night happened!
It was a huge event that was wonderfully successful. 6 bands, indoor and outdoor stages, lots of free drinks and a packed house. I got to meet a few of the girls who work with my COLAB friend and of course as they were from Portland, they were awesome. (= Simple Shoes sponsored the event as part of a nationwide campaign – I did some research on this brand and I’m not going to lie…it’s a pretty sweet brand. Shoes made from all natural materials! Ahhh.
The girls also gave me a pair of their Simple Shoes flip flops (thank you!!) which was very nice of them…and now I am currently living in them. So comfortable. Check them out:
So yes…check out some pictures from the show. Here’s the first band I saw:
The awesome thing about the venues on Red River is that many of them have multiple stages – generally one indoor and one outdoor. This was my first time at Encore and yeah, I think this is a great venue. Tons of space indoors and check out
the outdoor venue. Freaking awesome:
And then Quiet Company played:
I’ve probably said this in previous posts; however, I think QC is a great band. Because I’ve played with them before? Well, sure I guess that can be part of it. But the real reason I think they are great is because they understand what it means to create a community with their music…that’s huge.
Check out this video I took – during this song at the end they always let their fans come up and sing with them. Another super smart move in my opinion…including people rather than projecting at them is always always always a quick way to success (in addition to being stellar musicians, of course (; ).
You can see what I’m talking about in this video, around the 1 minute mark. Oh and please excuse the shaky hand…it’s hard to get a still video while dancing around (=
