When I first moved here to Austin, a new friend told me I lived like a vagabond. At first I took borderline offense: ‘WTF are you talking about?? I do NOT!’ …but then I thought hmmm well…maybe he has a point. (= I’d say I’m up for adventure and am a minimalist more than I am a vagabond, but whateves, I’ll take it as a compliment. (=
On a related note…I started getting bored with myself. My walks were becoming too routine and predictable. Apparently two things I am against. So I decided to switch it up. Start where I normally start but head the opposite direction…see where I end up.
So the other night I was researching moonlight towers (I WOULD be doing that). Anyway, did you know that Austin is the only city in the world to still operate a moonlight tower system? Google it!
HA! So this is kinda funny. I originally took this photo because this metal thing looks almost identical to the trash holder things that were all over Mexico. …then I realized I was on the frisbee golf course and it was most definitely not a Mexican trash can. Damn.
Pimp my ride? CHECK.
Does this cloud look like a longhorn (with short horns) to anyone else?
Watched people at Barton Springs for awhile.
Walked along the tracks…
Looooooove graffiti. However, I think Austin is working to get rid of it. Two of the graffiti things I’ve taken pictures of the last few weeks have been painted over. Damn, maybe they are using my blog to track all the Austin graffiti hahahaha. AHHHH.
Stopped awhile to take it all in. So funny story. Frequently I am on the phone during walks, catching up with my friends and family back home whom I miss dearly and wish were on the walk with me in person rather than on the phone. But…whatever…that’s a different blog post. Anyway, so it’s so funny bc the people I’m talking to are always like: …where ARE you right now?!?! hahha for whatever reason I cross bridges alot, so it always sounds like I am in a giant wind vortex. Or my personal favorite was last night, I was walking past a drum circle and about 10 feet later, a group of REAL vagabonds with about 10 dogs each. hahahaha My friend asked: where the heck are you? My answer: ummm…I’m on a bridge…next to a drum circle…and a bunch of dogs. …please don’t judge. (=
there’s a story behind this…
CEMENT PILLAR SWEATERS!!!!!!!! kinda like a dog sweater, but with cement!!! hahaha actually i have no idea what these sweater things are for, but they are CRACKING ME UP.
Nice:
I freaking love that there is an RV part in the middle of Barton Springs. Know what I love even more? That there is a RANDOM mannequin atop one of the RVs. hahahahaha oh my god.

3rd picture down: Is that a rim on top of that person’s trunk? #SWAGtastic
4th picture down: Definitely a 3D image of a baby longhorn taken in 2D (obviously). Mark it. #Iknowmyfarmals…farm+animals

Kim,
Wish you could have seen Austin in the 50′s and 60′s. I was born and raised there. Left in 71 and didn’t return until 1987. Stayed for four years, left again and haven’t lived there since. As great as it may be now, it was even better then. I hope you continue to enjoy my home town.
Yes, I wish I could have seen it too! I have heard from many long-time Austine’s – talking about how different Austin is now than in years past. I love Austin how it is now (as a newbie), but I imagine it must be something else to see the changes it has gone through in recent years. I can almost relate – I love Austin for how it is now and worry about what it will turn into as more people continue to come (although I am a transplant myself…).
One of the long-time Texans I spoke with about this was down in Luckenbach – I actually interviewed him – you might find it interesting: http://vimeo.com/8440884 I’d actually love to interview you too for this project if you’d be interested. I’ll shoot you an email, but in the meantime, thank you for your comment! (=
